Gerald W. Shepherd, 77, of Plymouth

Gerald W. Shepherd, known to many as Gary, passed away on September 30, 2026, in Mishawaka, Indiana, at the age of 77. He was born on February 7, 1949, in Knox, Indiana, and lived in Plymouth, Indiana, where he built a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a warm, easygoing spirit.

Gary was the son of the late Vernon Shepherd Sr. and Elizabeth (Estok) Shepherd. He was a proud graduate of Knox High School, Class of 1968, and carried the values of his upbringing with him throughout his life. He was known as a dependable man who took pride in doing things the right way and who met life with quiet strength and a good sense of humor.

For more than 30 years, Gary worked at McGill Manufacturing Company in Valparaiso, Indiana, where he was respected for his dedication and steady work ethic until his retirement. His long career reflected the kind of man he was, one who believed in showing up, working hard, and taking care of the responsibilities before him. Those who knew him appreciated his loyalty and the pride he took in a job well done.

On October 11, 1985, in Plymouth, Indiana, Gary married the love of his life, Wilma Marsh, who preceded him in death on August 11, 2015. Their marriage was a lasting partnership filled with love, companionship, and shared memories that remained close to his heart. Gary carried Wilma’s memory with him always and found comfort in the life they built together.

Gary enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. He liked playing cornhole, working out, and spending time in the garden. He also enjoyed grilling out and was an enthusiastic fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Notre Dame football. One of his most memorable qualities was his ability to dance to any song, a reflection of his joyful nature and his willingness to enjoy the moment. He had a way of bringing energy and fun to those around him.

Family was an important part of Gary’s life, and he will be lovingly remembered by his granddaughter, Shawna Neilson, and his great-grandson, Nicholas Neilson.
