A Laurel woman was flown for medical treatment from the scene of a Sunday crash in Decatur County.
About 10:15 p.m., Decatur County Communications was advised of a crash with injuries in the area of 2800 N. St. Rd. 3, Greensburg. Deputies of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department report that evidence indicates a 2008 Chevrolet passenger car was traveling south on St. Road 3 when it crossed the center line and struck a utility pole on the east side of the highway. The impact of the vehicle into the utility pole caused the vehicle to spin around and come to a rest facing north. The vehicle sustained significant damage and caught fire, which was quickly extinguished by arriving first responders. The crash also caused electrical service to be disrupted in the area.
The driver of the vehicle, Emily Nicole Howard, 35, of Laurel, was entrapped and had to be removed by staff of the Greensburg Fire Department. Howard was subsequently flown by Lifeline helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital.
The investigation into this crash is continuing.
Assisting departments included Decatur County Communications, Decatur County EMS, Greensburg Police Department, Greensburg Fire Department, Duke Energy and Platinum Wrecker Service.
