Ward Byers, the Plymouth Community School Corporation Director of Safety and Security, told GIANT fm WTCA that on Wednesday, the corporation received information from the School Resource Officers of an unspecified threat to an area school.
Byers said, “The PCSC was in regular contact throughout the day with law enforcement officials and area superintendents consulting on the matter.”
Byers told WTCA, “We made the decision to maintain our daily building schedules and processes, but with a heightened level of alertness.” He said if they had received additional credible information, the corporation would have worked through its Standard Response Protocols in accordance with the information provided.
Throughout the day and during dismissal time, the Plymouth Police Department had officers at the various school buildings to monitor the campuses to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Byers said the Plymouth Community School Corporation buildings are locked at all times, and door access is monitored along with improved camera coverage of the properties and buildings. He said that Plymouth Police regularly patrol the various school campuses throughout the day and are an exceptional partner to PCSC, ensuring the safety of students and staff every day.
Plymouth Community School was not the only school in Marshall County to be put on a soft lockdown on Wednesday due to a vague threat. Culver Community Schools, Argos Community Schools, LaVille Community Schools, and Bremen Public Schools also took precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff.
According to officials, the threat did not name a specific school, but it was serious enough to warrant heightened alertness.
