A pursuit in Pulaski County ended with two arrests on drug-related charges.
On Friday, Pulaski County Deputy Marshal Speer observed a woman acting suspiciously at the Family Express Gas Station. A Bureau of Motor Vehicles check was conducted on the vehicle the woman was a passenger in, which returned registered to a wanted male subject.
Deputy Marshal Speer made contact with the male driver, who provided a false name. When ordered out of the vehicle, the male driver and female passenger fled the scene in the vehicle. A pursuit was initiated and continued through county roads in the southwest portion of Pulaski County. Pulaski County Sergeant Barton, along with K9 Deputy Leszek and his K9 partner Tiko, joined the pursuit.
Shortly thereafter, the vehicle left the roadway on 700 South, east of U.S. 421. The driver ignored commands to stop, at which point K9 Deputy Leszek deployed K9 Tiko, who successfully apprehended the driver.
It was later determined that the female passenger had been dropped off during the pursuit while Deputy Marshal Speer was temporarily blinded by heavy gravel dust.
Drone units from the Medaryville Police Department, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, and Jasper County Sheriff’s Office were deployed to canvas the area.
Pulaski County Chief Deputy Rogers utilized a department drone and located the passenger lying in a cornfield, attempting to conceal herself from law enforcement. Chief Deputy Rogers directed officers to her location, where Deputy Leszek and K9 Tiko assisted in preventing her escape.
Both suspects were safely taken into custody.
