TVSC receives Health First Indiana funding

Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation (TVSC) is proud to announce that it has received Health First Indiana funding through the Kosciusko County Health Department to support the well-being of its students. This funding has played a crucial role in enhancing mental health resources within the district and expanding access to emergency medical equipment.

In Spring 2024, TVSC was awarded $32,850 to support the salary and benefits of hiring an additional mental health therapist for the district. By Summer 2024, TVSC successfully hired an additional mental health therapist, who has been serving students at Mentone Elementary and Tippecanoe Valley Middle School since Aug. 5, 2024.

“This funding has allowed us to provide critical mental health support to students who otherwise might not have access, TVMS Principal Kyle Wieland said. “The addition of a mental health therapist has had a profound impact, helping students navigate challenges and develop essential coping skills.”

A message from the mental health therapist:

"Something came to mind when discussing the idea of success stories. Several parents and guardians of students I work with have expressed how thankful they are for this service. Many families have tried outside counseling before, but faced barriers such as cost, inconsistent schedules, therapists leaving, or personality mismatches. Having access to a therapist at school has been a huge blessing. Parents have seen real growth and progress in their children, and they recognize that the consistent, caring services provided at school are making a real difference."

In addition to mental health resources, TVSC has recently received additional Health First Indiana funding to purchase six new AEDs, automated external defibrillators, for its school buildings. These devices will provide better access to life-saving equipment in the event of an emergency.

Looking ahead, TVSC has been approved for $65,700 in Health First Indiana funding for 2025 to continue supporting the salary and benefits of its mental health therapists. This funding remains vital in ensuring students receive the support they need to succeed academically, socially and emotionally.
