Traffic to switch to eastbound lanes for U.S. 30 resurfacing project

Drivers traveling U.S. 30 between U.S. 35 and Union Road should expect a significant traffic shift as early as Wednesday evening, July 22nd, as INDOT contractor Rieth-Riley Construction Co. Inc. wraps up work on the eastbound lanes and prepares to move to the next phase of the project.

With paving on the eastbound side nearing completion, crews are currently finishing guardrails, shoulder corrugations, and temporary striping. Once that work is done, traffic will be switched to one lane in each direction on the eastbound side of U.S. 30, placing two-way traffic on the same side of the roadway.

The two-way configuration requires extra attention from all motorists. No left turns from U.S. 30 will be permitted during this phase. Drivers crossing or turning onto U.S. 30 from intersecting roads should use extreme caution. Specifically, when westbound lanes are closed, southbound traffic approaching U.S. 30 from the north should stop in the median and check for oncoming traffic before completing their movement.

INDOT reminds all drivers to slow down, follow posted speed limits, and drive distraction-free through the work zone.

The project includes full and partial depth patching, milling and resurfacing, pipe work, and pavement markings. Construction is expected to continue through the end of November. Drivers should also be aware that the U.S. 35 ramp to U.S. 30 westbound will close for approximately three weeks near the end of this current phase of work.

INDOT encourages motorists to allow extra travel time when passing through this area.
