Temporary traffic flow change coming Monday to McKay Road

Vehicle traffic on McKay Road, specifically between Miller Road and Miller Avenue, will be reduced to a westbound one-way street beginning Monday and lasting through the end of August.

The change in traffic pattern is part of the City of Shelbyville’s McKay Road Overlay Project.

The timing of the altered traffic pattern comes just ahead of Shelbyville High School and Shelbyville Middle School starting the 2024-2025 school year on Aug. 7.

In a Facebook post from the City of Shelbyville, enhanced signage and traffic control will be in place. The city has discussed with school officials how traffic flow will be handled during peak times when students arrive and depart school.

The McKay Road Overlay Project includes the installation of 2,100 feet of storm sewer on the south side of McKay Road, from Berwick Drive to Theobald Street.

The top layer of concrete on McKay Road will be milled off and a new layer of asphalt will be applied.
