Officials with Toyota Boshoku Illinois (TBIL) and other dignitaries were on hand Wednesday for the ribbon cutting and unveiling of the new solar farm project.
The ceremonies took place at the TBIL production plant located east of Lawrenceville. The new 4.75-megawatt facility was built on land just west of the plant near the entrance.
The solar farm will provide 85% of the clean, renewable energy for the plant operations and is a major step forward in the company's goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by the year 2050.
Work on the project began four years ago in partnership with Sol Systems, Onyx Renewables and Nelnet. It is anticipated that the solar plant will be ready to operate by the end of the week.
