The Indiana State Police (ISP) are looking into the circumstances surrounding a shooting Wednesday afternoon by Sullivan County sheriffs deputies that resulted in the death of a Sullivan man. Preliminary reports indicate that two deputies were called out to a Tulip Tree Lane location around 3:30 p.m. ET in regard to a protective order issued earlier against 54 Cameron Lee Atkins. Around 4 p.m., dispatch was informed that shot had been fired at the location and that Atkins had been shot. Attempts to resussitate him were unsuccessful at the scene. It initially appears as though The two deputies fatally shot Atkins after he pointed a firearm at them. The two deputies, who were not identified, have been placed on administrative leave and an autopsy on Atkins is pending. The ISP will submit a full report to the Sullivan County Prosecutors Office once their investigation is done.
