The National Weather Service (NWS) reports they have confirmed 5 tornado touchdowns during a line of severe storms that rumbled across the area late Friday night and early Saturday morning.
Lawrence County was spared any extensive damages, but other areas were hard hit.
A tornado was reported around 12:00 a.m. Saturday near Neoga in Coles County.
It flipped two semi-trucks over onto their sides on Interstate 57 and then did substantial damage to both Neoga Elementary and Jr/Sr High School.
Funnel clouds were also reported at Mattoon and Paris, Ill.
There was tornado activity reported at Oakland City in Gibson County and in Daviess County in southwestern Indiana.
The NWS says additional tornado confirmation and damage assessment work is being done early this week.
