St Francisville looking to curb speeding on recently repaired bridge

The St Francisville City Council received a final report on the recent repair work done on the bridge and were pleased that the project went well.

Now, their concerns turn to drivers who speed across that bridge, now that it is back in use. The speed limit for crossing the bridge is 10 mph and Police Chief Billy Darnell says that enforcement action through the issuance of tickets will be increased in the future. The bridge was the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Sunday, August 9th in which a guardrail was damaged and Darnell told GIANT-FM News that speed was a factor in the mishap. The council voted to authorize repairs on the guardrail at a cost of between $800 to $1000. The bridge will be shut down briefly to allow that work to happen at a date to be determined.

Mayor T.J. Moyes reported that the water tower maintenance painting project has been delayed and will now start after the Labor Day holiday and that water wells #6 and #7 in the city well field were recently cleaned, tested and are back online.

Tuesday, August 25th is the date that those interested in running for the city council can pick up their petitions for the April 6th, 2027 consolidated election. Four alderman seats will be up for election in Wards 1, 2, and 3.
