Hanjung America, a subsidiary of South Korea-based Hanjung NCS, will establish its first U.S.-based manufacturing facility in Indiana to support the state’s growing energy storage supply chain. The new site will initially create more than 300 new high-wage jobs in Huntington.
“Hanjung America’s decision to locate its first North American manufacturing facility in Indiana is a major win for the state and for Huntington County,” said Indiana Governor Mike Braun. “The company’s new operation will strengthen Indiana’s growing leadership in creating the next generation of energy solutions while creating hundreds of high-skill, high-paying jobs for Hoosiers and setting the stage for continued supply chain growth throughout the state.”
Hanjung America will establish its first U.S. factory in Huntington to manufacture Energy Storage Systems (ESS), constructing and equipping a new facility on 133 acres at the Riverfork West Industrial Park. The company, which is a tier one supplier of high-performance ESS components for Samsung SDI, will leverage the new sites to meet growing demand for its solutions, supplying cooling systems and enhanced direct injection fire extinguishers for container type ESS to support the supply chain of Stellantis and Samsung SDI’s StarPlus Energy electric vehicle battery manufacturing operations in Kokomo and the broader renewable energy ecosystem across Indiana and the surrounding region.
The company plans to break ground in April and expects to begin operating in June 2027. Hanjung America will hire more than 300 positions in Huntington to start and expects full employment could reach more than 440 jobs in the coming years with average wages higher than the county average. The company is also evaluating additional opportunities for growth in Indiana.
“We are delighted to establish Hanjung America in Huntington and to become a member of the Indiana community, and we look forward to contributing to regional development,” said Kevin Kim, president of Hanjung America. “This new location allows us to better serve our local customers with our leading-edge technology ESS components.”
Hanjung America is the latest company to establish operations in Indiana to power Stellantis’ and Samsung SDI’s two new StarPlus Energy gigafactories in Kokomo, joining companies like soulbrain MI and Jaweon Industrial.
“Huntington is proud to welcome a Hanjung America production facility to Riverfork West,” said Huntington Mayor Richard Strick. “Hanjung’s technology makes energy storage safer and more effective, two critical requirements to lowering energy costs for consumers throughout the grid. These are good-paying manufacturing jobs, and our workforce will demonstrate once again what makes Huntington a special community in this global economy.”
Hanjung NCS, which was founded in South Korea in 1995, is committed to powering the future, specializing in the manufacture of components for HVAC systems, energy storage systems and electric vehicles within the automotive and energy storage industries. The company produces parts such as cooling fan modules, battery modules for electric and hybrid vehicles, and various sensors and controllers that support the functionality and safety of these systems. The Huntington factory is the company’s first manufacturing operation in North America, joining the company’s operations in South Korea, China and a U.S.-based customer service facility in Michigan.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) committed an investment in Hanjung America of up to $4.5 million in the form of incentive-based tax credits, up to $400,000 in Hoosier Business Investment tax credits, and up to $200,000 in training grants based on the company’s plans to invest significantly in Indiana and create more than 500 new jobs statewide. These incentives are performance-based, meaning the company is eligible to claim state benefits once investments are made and jobs are created. Huntington County offered additional incentives to support the project.
