On Monday, February 6, (2023) at approximately 1:00 A.M. a Marshall County K9 Deputy performed a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of U.S. 31 and 14th Road. K9 Officer Bear was deployed during the stop to conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle. Doing so, Bear alerted to the presence of the odor of marijuana or narcotics emitting from the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed methamphetamine, marijuana, paraphernalia, and various ID cards inside. Another deputy on the stop attempted to identify the driver, who was later identified as 30-year-old Jason White of South Bend, who was falsely identifying himself. It was later discovered that White was also a habitual traffic violator.
Jason White was taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail where he was booked and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Driving while HTV, Identity Deception, Possession of False Government Identification, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Paraphernalia. His cash bond was set at $1,500.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
