Smalley arrested by county police for New Year's Day medical call

A North Liberty man is being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond after county police handled a medical call in Tyner on Jan. 1.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Department obtained information of a medical call at a residence on Vine Street in Tyner on New Year’s Day.

County officers arrived on the scene and handled the medical call. They found a substance believed to be narcotics and forwarded a case report to the Marshall County Prosecutor's Office. The Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant, and 27-year-old Colin Matthew Smalley of North Liberty was arrested Sunday.

Smalley was booked into the Marshall County Jail on two charges of possession of cocaine or narcotic drug and possession of a hypodermic syringe and held on a $10,000 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings, entitled to be represented by counsel, and entitled to a trial by jury, at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
