An 18-year-old man was seriously injured in Cass County over the weekend after crashing into a fence off U.S. 24.
According to a press release from the Cass County Sheriff's Office, just before 1 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, deputies were dispatched to the scene of a single-vehicle crash at County Road 600 E, just south of US 24.
The preliminary investigation revealed Braden Deckard, 18, of Alton, Missouri, was driving a 2021 Dodge Ram southbound on County Road 600 E when he failed to stop at US 24. Deckard's vehicle continued traveling southbound before traveling off the east side of County Road 600 E, striking a fence and an embankment before stopping in a field.
Deckard sustained serious injuries from the crash and was airlifted from the scene via medical helicopter to Parkview in Ft.Wayne. Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
The Walton Fire Department, New Waverly Fire Department, and Cass County EMS also assisted Cass County Sheriff Deputies at the scene.
