Sheriff Hassel releases May Departmental and Jail Report

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel released the top ten offenses for being booked into the Marshall County Jail in May.

There were a total of 179 bookings into the jail in May, with the DNR making 1 arrest, Bourbon Police made 2 arrests, Argos Police had 3 arrests,  Community Corrections arrested 4, while Culver Police made 7 arrests, and Bremen Police had 11 arrests. Troopers with the Indiana State Police arrested 12 people in May, with Plymouth Police arresting 61 and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department having 78 arrests.

Jail count day was June 13th, when there were 137 inmates. 1 person was serving time with a misdemeanor charge, and 19 were serving felony charges. There were 99 pre-trial inmates, 14 awaiting arraignment, and 4 held for other agencies.  The county jail housed 116 male inmates and 21 female inmates. 

The average daily population in May was 148, while six months earlier, in November, the average daily population was 125, and a year earlier, in May 2024, it was 132.

Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigated 54 accidents in May, 41 were property damage and 13 involved personal injury.  Officers initiated 87 case reports last month, issued 194 warnings or citations, and conducted 12 security checks.       

The Central Dispatch Center answered 4,455 calls, with 1,313 being 911 calls.  The Sheriff’s Department also responded to 1,201 calls for service in May, and there are a total of 1,283 active warrants to be served.
