A Shelbyville woman has been charged in the death of a child.
Just before 11 p.m. Wednesday, Shelbyville Police Department officers responded to 911 Hale Road, Lot 17, for a report of an unresponsive child. Upon arrival, officers were met outside by Sophie Igou, who was beside her 22-month-old child who laid in the driveway. Officers immediately attempted to render aid, but it was quickly determined that the child was deceased.
SPD investigators were called to the scene and began their investigation. At this time, an autopsy has been requested to determine the cause of death. As part of the ongoing investigation, Igou has been charged with Level 1 Neglect of a Dependent Causing Death. Additional charges are pending at this time.
The Shelbyville Police Department offered thanks to the Shelby County Prosecutor’s Office and the Shelby County Coroner’s Office for their assistance in this investigation. This remains an active investigation.
