The Shelbyville Central Schools Board has requested the resignation of school board member David Finkel.
Current SCS board president Michael Turner released a letter Tuesday addressing the FBI conducting a federal search warrant last week at the residence of school board member David Finkel (photo).
The resignation is not official until Finkel files the appropriate paperwork with the Shelby County Circuit Court. Once completed and certified, the members of the school board will hold a meeting to accept the resignation.
There is a special session school board meeting scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Shelbyville Central Schools Administrative Office at 1121 E. State Road 44.
The FBI has not filed charges, and no arrests have been made.
In light of the ongoing legal matters involving Finkel, the school board and administration believe the request serves in the best interest of its students, staff and the community.
As an elected official, Finkel’s position could not be directly intervened upon by the board; however, the board acknowledges that the best course of action is for him to step down.
The board adds that this is a personal issue and not conduct involving the school district.
