Shelby County Coroner releases name of deceased man from Saturday accident

The Shelby County Coroner has released the name of the motorcycle rider that was fatally injured early Saturday morning.

At approximately 4:25 a.m. Saturday, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Shelbyville Fire Department, Shelbyville Police Department and Fairland Fire Department were dispatched to a vehicle crash on 400 North on the overpass of Interstate 74.

Preliminary investigation indicated a 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling west on 400 N. and struck a 2024 Freightliner semi-trailer.

The Freightliner was driven by 26-year-old Arif Ozer of Primos, Pennsylvania.

The Harley Davidson was driven by 43-year-old John Davis of Fairland, Indiana. Davis was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicated the Freightliner was exiting I-74 east bound onto 400 N. and turning east through a green light. The motorcycle was traveling west of 400 N. disregarding the red light and making contact with the trailer of the semi.
