Austin D. Jones, 22, of Rochester, faces charges of criminal recklessness with a firearm, domestic battery, resisting law enforcement and intimidation.
A Rochester man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly assaulting a woman and then discharging a firearm multiple times in the area of responding officers.
At approximately 8:05 p.m., the Fulton County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a woman stating she needed help. Dispatchers could reportedly hear a man yelling in the background.
Deputies responded to 1897 N. 600 West, where the call originated, and also met with the woman away from the home. She explained to police that a domestic violence incident had occurred at the home and claimed Austin D. Jones, 22, of Rochester, threw things at her and hit her while he was intoxicated.
Deputies then proceeded to the residence and contacted Jones. During their interaction in the driveway near the road, Jones walked back toward the residence. Deputies then heard several gunshots.
Multiple other officers responded to assist. A short time later, Jones surrendered to deputies and he was taken into custody without further incident. He was subsequently taken for medical clearance at Woodlawn Hospital and booked in the Fulton County Jail on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness with a firearm, domestic battery, resisting law enforcement and intimidation.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Rochester Police Department and Indiana State Police.
