A status hearing occurred Thursday, July 23rd in Richland County Circuit Court for 25-year-old Dylan Jones of Olney accused of a double homicide.

Jones is charged with four counts of Murder with Intent to Kill or Injure and 2 counts of Murder with the Strong Probability to Kill or Injure. Those charges stem from an investigation by authorities into the deaths of 52-year-old John Jones, Jr. and 73-year-old Deborah Jones. Police believe that Dylan Jones struck John Jones with a sharp object in the head, killing him at an Olney residence. They also believe that he was responsible for the stabbing death of Deborah Jones at a separate Olney residence in early July.

The defense focused on the medication given to Jones while he is in jail and its effects on him and his mental competency to stand trial. It is hoped that an evaluation of his mental state can be completed by mid-to-late August.

Another status hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, August 13th in the case. Jones remains incarcerated in the Richland County Detention Center in Olney.
