Pulaski County will host a series of community workshops to update the County’s comprehensive plan. Workshops will be held across the county at the following times:
The comprehensive plan is a long-range, community-wide guide for responsible growth, preservation, and strategic investment across the County. Pulaski County adopted its current comprehensive plan in 2009; updating the comprehensive plan will help keep the county's long-range planning relevant, respond to shifts in local development patterns, and consolidate standalone studies and strategic initiatives. The planning process will also develop a unified vision for the future and describe a path forward through actionable goals, projects, policies, and initiatives.
Community engagement is critical to the success of the planning process. To ensure plan recommendations protect community assets, address potential issues, respond to residents’ changing needs, and serve as a tool to direct appropriate investment, residents are encouraged to attend one of the upcoming workshops and participate in online activities. A community survey is now available on the project website and is open through November 8: www.planpulaski.com.
“This planning process is happening at just the right time because we have surpassed the point at which our existing plan could any longer be considered relevant, the county has seen and is seeing significant changes, and the opportunities afforded to us by incoming solar-project revenues should be accompanied by a fresh, new vision reflecting the wants, needs, and hopes of the community,” said Nathan P. Origer, Executive Director of the Pulaski County Community Development Commission. “It's critical residents participate in this process so that the vision is theirs and not simply County personnel's or the consultant's."
The workshops, facilitated by consultants from HWC Engineering, will be an interactive dialogue with fellow citizens and community leaders. Each workshop will begin with a presentation, followed by small group discussions to help inform the plan's vision and goals. Workshop results and online survey responses will continue to guide local officials, staff, and the consultant team as they proceed with plan development.
