Marshall County Republicans conducted five caucuses on Thursday to select five vacated positions. Deb Vandemark, County Republican Chair, opened the meeting by instructing the packed room on the caucus rules.
The first caucus filled the vacancy created on the Marshall County Council when Adam Faulstitch was elected County Commissioner beginning January 1. Faulstitch still has two years left on the council term. Stephen Gorski, the only person submitting a declaration of candidacy, was selected to represent the Council’s 4th District, which includes precincts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 8 in Center Township.
The second caucus filled Bill Githens's Culver Town Council position. The caucus selected Justin Croy as the only person to file a declaration of candidacy.
Amy Castille was also the only person who filed a declaration for the vacated position of German Advisory Board following Don Meister's resignation. She was selected for the position in caucus number three.
Two people declared candidacy for Bremen's Clerk/Treasurer position in the fourth caucus. Megan Atkins was selected over Brad Thornton to replace Janet Anglemyer, who has served Bremen in that position for a number of years.
The fifth caucus was to fill the position vacated by Ben Baker’s resignation as German Township Trustee. Four candidates filed for the position. Heath Thornton, Trent Weldy, Jonathon Monhaut, and Phillip Meister declared candidacy. Meister was selected for the position on the first vote.
Vandemark thanked all for their attendance and participation and especially thanked those retiring for their many years of service.
