State Representatives Jake Teshka (R-North Liberty) and Jack Jordan (R-Bremen) recently received appointments to serve on interim study committees, which will meet throughout the summer and fall to explore policy issues and work together to identify solutions.
Legislators will hear testimony from the public, various experts, and stakeholders as they work on bill recommendations ahead of the budget session in January.
Teshka will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Education and the Native American Indian Affairs Commission.
"Nearly half of the state budget goes toward K-12 education in our state and it's critical for us to ensure taxpayer dollars are helping to deliver the best educational outcomes for Hoosier students," Teshka said. "This interim, legislators will seek how we can improve school attendance and improve learning environments for student success."
Jordan will serve as a member of the State and Local Tax Review Task Force.
"We're continuing to take a comprehensive look at Indiana's overall financial position," Jordan said. "This means reviewing the state's already low debt obligations, pension funds, and taxes to see how we can benefit Hoosiers the most and keep more money in their pocket."
Committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, can be viewed live online on the General Assembly's website located at iga.in.gov.
