The Water Street Townhomes in downtown Plymouth are nearing completion.
During the Redevelopment Commission meeting this week, City Attorney Jeff Houin stated that work is ongoing on the exterior with the installation of siding on the front of the building. Once finished, they will move around to the back and complete the work there. He mentioned a delay with the electricians on the interior installation. When the electricians are done, the drywallers will proceed to finish their work.
The city attorney said that when they find out NIPSCO’s plans to relocate the service to the new poles, the developer will schedule the paving of the parking lot and the alleyway.
Recently, the city council agreed to install new street lighting on Water Street in front of the townhomes. That work needs to be scheduled and completed before the developer can install the sidewalks. Houin said they weren’t in the plan because they are on the city’s right-of-way. While the plan was to install the same lights used in River Park Square, they are not being manufactured anymore, so the city went with something similar.
Completion of the Water Street Townhomes is at the end of November.
The Water Street Townhomes project will offer one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, as well as a new 1,302 sq. ft. retail storefront in Plymouth’s downtown area.
READI funds ($664,000) are being used on construction, utility, and parking lot/sidewalk work. Culver Sand Hill Farm LLC ($2,781,942) and the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission ($800,000) are providing additional funding.
The project’s intended outcomes include having a significantly positive impact on enhancing the quality of place in the downtown neighborhood and increasing population and economic activity through the purchase of goods and services in the region.
