The Randolph Street Bridge in Centennial Park will be ready for business by the end of the day on Saturday.
LaPorte Construction says both sides of the bridge will be barricaded and fenced off to help keep the public contained within the roadway area.
In discussions Friday morning with the Blueberry Festival Committee and the Park Department, LaPorte Construction will pull the barricades on Monday morning to allow vendors to set up and for festival traffic.
This week, LaPorte Construction poured curb and gutter on both sides of the project, as well as poured the wall transitions on both ends of the bridge. They also finished placing subgrade treatment in the roadway and fine graded and compacted it in preparation for paving. E&B paving placed the base and intermediate lifts in the roadway so the bridge could be temporarily opened for the Blueberry Festival.
LaPorte spent a lot of time doing cleanup work and setting up barrels and snow fences to protect the jobsite from damage and for safety during the festival.
There will be no work onsite for the next two weeks due to the Blueberry Festival. The Randolph Street Bridge project and roadway will be closed on Sept. 8 to continue construction. The project will only be open to pedestrian foot traffic, passenger trollies, and vendor traffic during the festival.
