Putnam County Fair continues this week

With rides set up Monday, Putnam County 4-H Fair event organizers are anticipating crowds to turn out in droves this week during the fair festivities. 

"There's something for everyone. We want people to come on out and experience it," said Jenna Ness, of the Purdue Extension Office of Putnam County. 

Fair board member Clint Cooper echoed those sentiments, telling The Putnam County Post, the fair has always served as Putnam County's annual reunion.

"It is an all county reunion. You see a lot of people you don't see often or at all outside of the fair. It is nice to run into and see people you haven't seen in a while," Cooper said. 

According to Cooper, the fair board has consistently tried to bring new things to the community every year he has been on the board. 

"We try to have new and different things for the public.For a while we had the free stage. We try to do truck and tractor show, the rodeo and there has been some talk of a demolition derby on that back 40 field area. The carnival and food vendors always draw a crowd, as do the shows and showmanship," Cooper said. 

And, with new activities comes new families involved, Cooper added. 

"We have a lot of younger kids. On the horse and pony side, we have a lot of new families. We need more camping spots and that shows we are growing. 4-H is a great organization and gets kids involved in several important facets of life. I think it is great. To see those new families is huge, and everybody is very helpful and respectful when it comes to first year members coming in," Cooper said.
