Purdue Extension to offer Diabetes Management Program in February

Purdue Extension Marshall County will host a four-week diabetes management program next month designed to help adults with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar and reduce health complications.

The "Dining with Diabetes" series will meet on four consecutive Wednesdays, February 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th—from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Marshall County Council on Aging, located at 1305 West Harrison Street in Plymouth.

The educational series combines nutrition education, cooking demonstrations, and practical diabetes management strategies. Participants will learn how to prepare healthy meals that are easy to make and taste good, with recipes demonstrated at each session.

The curriculum covers up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning, exercise, and how to understand common diabetes-related medical tests. Recipes and handouts will be provided to all participants, and attendees will have the opportunity to taste each demonstrated dish.

A three-month reunion session will follow the initial four-week series to support long-term lifestyle changes.

The program is open to individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, as well as their family members and caretakers. Participants are encouraged to attend all class sessions for maximum benefit.

Research has shown that people who learn to manage their blood glucose levels, eat a healthy diet, and exercise regularly can significantly lower their risk of diabetes-related complications and lead healthier, more productive lives.

The cost is $40, payable by cash or check made out to Marshall County Council on Aging. Registration is required and must be completed by January 28th at 4:00 p.m.
