Plymouth Water Department to begin annual water main flushing Monday, June 1st

The Plymouth Water Department will begin its annual water main flushing program on Monday, June 1st, and residents may notice temporary changes to their water during the three-week project.

Crews will begin work at 6 a.m. on June 1st, working 10-hour days until the project is complete. The flushing process is a routine maintenance procedure designed to improve water quality and system performance throughout the city.

During the flushing process, residents may experience temporary pressure fluctuations and discoloration of their drinking water. Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson said the department will make every effort to minimize inconveniences to residents during the project.

If your water becomes discolored, the Water Department recommends running cold water — preferably from a bathtub faucet, which does not have an aerator — for approximately five to ten minutes. If the discoloration persists after running the water, residents are asked to contact the Plymouth Water Department directly.
