Plymouth Schools Superintendent Mitch Mawhorter announces retirement

After years of dedicated leadership and service, Plymouth Community School Corporation (PCSC) Superintendent Mitchell D. Mawhorter has announced his intention to retire at the conclusion of the current school year. The announcement was shared with the public on Monday via the school corporation’s Facebook page.

In an open letter addressed to the community, Mawhorter reflected on his tenure and expressed his gratitude for his time leading the district.

"I am writing to share my decision to retire as Superintendent of the Plymouth Community School Corporation at the conclusion of this school year," Mawhorter stated. "Serving this community has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such dedicated educators and staff while supporting the growth and success of our outstanding students."

As Mawhorter prepares to step down, the PCSC Board of School Trustees is officially beginning the search process to select the district’s next leader. To ensure the new superintendent aligns with the needs and values of the district, the board is turning to the public for guidance.

School officials are encouraging all parents, staff, students, alumni, and community members to participate in an online survey. The feedback gathered will help the board identify the key qualities and traits the community hopes to see in its next superintendent.

"Your voice will be an important part of that work," Mawhorter noted in his letter, urging all members of the community to share their perspectives.

"Thank you for allowing me to be part of Plymouth’s journey," Mawhorter concluded. "I am proud of what we have accomplished together and remain confident in the bright future ahead for our schools."
