Plymouth City meetings Tuesday to cover downtown event closures, historic firehouse grant, and more

A full evening of city business is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26th, as the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety and the Plymouth Common Council each convene at City Hall with agendas touching on downtown events, historic preservation, local business support, and building code updates.

The Board of Public Works and Safety will open the evening at 6 p.m. with consideration of street closures for upcoming downtown events, along with a request for prepayment of entertainers for the Mayor's Summer of Music Concert Series. The board will also hear reports from city department heads, approve claims, and accept communications.

The Common Council meeting follows at 6:30 p.m. and will open with two public hearings — one on the Historic Fire Station Renovation Project and a second on a vacation application from Habitat for Humanity.

Council members will take up the second and third readings of an ordinance amending the Plymouth Building Code to require emergency key boxes on certain structures, as well as an ordinance modifying permit and application fees for the city.

On the economic development front, the council will consider a request for a Commercial Revitalization Rebate Program Grant for Jaimes Grocery on Garro Street in downtown Plymouth, and will consider a resolution of support for grant applications related to the restoration of the Historic Firehouse and City Hall.

Rounding out the agenda under Other Business is an explanation of Project Fire Buddies, along with updates on ONE Marshall County and the city's Comprehensive Plan.

Both meetings will be held in the second-floor Council Chambers of City Hall and are open to the public. Those attending should enter through the Garro Street door. The meetings will also be streamed live on the City of Plymouth's YouTube channel.
