During their meeting Monday evening, the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved a request of the Safety and Security Director for the Plymouth Community School Corporation for new signage.

Ward Byers of the school corporation and Plymouth’s Street Superintendent Jim Marquart have looked at options for alerting drivers on Baker Street to pedestrians crossing from the school parking lot to the Kindt Soccer Complex and for the Greenway Trail Crossing on Randolph Street in front of the high school.  They also worked with the Complete Streets Committee to find a solution.

The school corporation worked with MACOG on a grant for four solar-powered, flashing, LED pedestrian crossing signs.  Byers said MACOG paid 80% of the cost and the school corporation paid 20%.

Monday evening Byers asked for city approval to place the signs in the city’s right-of-way by the Plymouth Street Department.  He said, “The hope is to bring more attention to these two crossings.”

The Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously approved the request.

Byers said the first sign was installed on Baker Street Tuesday between rain showers.
