Lawrence County Unit #20 Superintendent Doug Daugherty has announced that the opening of Parkside Elementary School in Lawrenceville for the 2026-27 school term will be delayed.
Unit #20 issued a release Thursday indicating that mold had been discovered in areas inside the building during summer maintenance work. The school will remain closed until further notice to allow for cleanup.
The district is working with environmental and remediation specialists to complete the work in a timely manner. Once the remediation work is completed, the building located at 1900 Cedar Street will be thoroughly inspected for safety.
Unit #20 is working on a revised school calendar and reopening plan with a new start date still to be determined. Additional updated information for district students and parents will be released when it becomes available through e-mail, the district website, the district Facebook page and the local news media.
