Local emergency officials spent a portion of Tuesday night and Wednesday morning working on a train derailment in Greencastle.
According to local officials, a CSX trail derailed Tuesday night off the tracks at County Road 100 East (Round Barn Road).
“It looks like it was minor. The CSX train cars are upright, and there were no leaks or spills and no injuries. According to dispatch, several of the train car’s wheels came off the tracks,” Scott Ducker, of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, told The Putnam County Post.
Putnam County Emergency Management Director Sarah Owen confirmed to The Putnam County Post that was the case.
“I haven't received any updates yet this morning,” she said Wednesday morning. “What I do know is there were around 25 cars that came off the track. No injuries and the cars remained upright. There were no hazmat cars involved according to CSX and Greencastle Fire Department was told the same thing when they were onscene. Drone footage confirmed that none were on their sides. Crews for CSX were working over night to get the train back on the track so that it could be moved and repairs to the rail undertaken.”
