The Marshall County Neighborhood Center is gearing up for the holidays with the application process, fundraising, and food drives.
Applications are now being accepted for Thanksgiving Food Baskets. Applications must be completed in person by November 3rd. Christmas applications are also open right now. Families will be adopted and receive two gifts per child, and a Christmas meal food gift card to create their own holiday meal. Adult households will receive a Christmas meal food card. Applications must be completed in person by the November 10th deadline.
Next week, from October 20th through the 24th, the Neighborhood Center is having a fun Thanksgiving Food Drive. Each day, they have posted an item or two for donors to pick up and drop off at the center, 402 West Garro Street.
On Monday, the Center is looking for instant mashed potatoes.
On Tuesday, the food drive will be canned green beans and cream of mushroom soup.
On Wednesday, you can drop off French-fried onions and or Jiffy corn muffin mix.
On Thursday, the food is corn. The Neighborhood Center needs whole canned and creamed corn.
On Friday, stuffing is the donation of choice.
The Marshall County Neighborhood Center will provide between 150 and 180 Thanksgiving Food Baskets and can only accomplish this with the help of the community.
Other items needed for the Thanksgiving Food Baskets include frozen turkeys, cranberry sauce, and canned yams. With financial donations, the center will provide a pie, butter, bread, and milk.
For folks who like to walk or run, the Gobble Wobble will help provide the Marshall County Neighborhood Center with much-needed funds for the holidays. The Gobble Wobble will be held on Saturday, November 1st, at the tennis court pavilion in Centennial Park at 9 a.m. This year, there is a 5K and 10K event, and you can walk, run, or do a combination of both.
