Motorcycle pursuit, two arrested from Crown Point

An early morning chase involved three motorcycles on U.S. 30.

Just after midnight Thursday, a Marshall County deputy advised that three motorcycles were traveling east on U.S. 30 at more than 90 mph.  The deputy initiated a traffic stop on U.S. 30 and Oak Drive, but only one of the motorcycles stopped. 

A Plymouth officer was in the area of U.S. 30 and Michigan Road and located the other two motorcycles, pacing them at 100 mph as they continued east.  The officer initiated a traffic stop and both motorcycles initially stopped, however, both quickly accelerated and began to flee.  One motorcycle continued east on U.S. 30 and the second one took the U.S. 31 ramp northbound. 

The first motorcycle continued east on U.S. 30 and into Kosciusko County.  The motorcycle rider at one point rammed a squad car twice with the motorcycle before being taken into custody.  He was identified as Ty Tavernier, 40, of Crown Point.  The second motorcycle finally stopped on .US. 31 near Veterans Parkway.  That driver was identified as Timothy Berry, 37, also of Crown Point. 

Both subjects were lodged at the Marshall County Jail.  Berry faces criminal charges for misdemeanor reckless driving and felony resisting law enforcement.  Tavernier faces criminal charges for misdemeanor reckless driving, aggressive driving, criminal mischief, felony resisting law enforcement, and battery against law enforcement. Both were held on $1,500 cash bonds.  

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made
