Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter has proclaimed the week of March 26th through April 1st as Farmworker and Farmer Awareness Week. The proclamation honors the spirit and hard work of Indiana farmworkers, farmers, and Proteus, Inc. that support them.
The mayor’s proclamation says “the City of Plymouth is situated in Marshall County. Indiana's agribusiness employs more than 186,000 year-round seasonal and migrant farmworkers and 94,000 farmers who are key partners for the safety, security, and sustainability of Indiana's food supply. The labor of Indiana’s farm workers contributes billions of dollars annually to the state’s economy and agriculture continues to be one of the principal industries in the surrounding counties.”
The City of Plymouth honors all those who plant, cultivate, harvest, and process our agricultural products.
Proteus, Inc. is an Iowa-based private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving migrant and seasonal farmworkers, immigrants, and others since 1979. Proteus, Inc. was created to help provide communities with health, educational, and economic opportunities for farmworkers across Indiana, Iowa, and Nebraska.
