Surrounded by community members, business leaders, and Scouts, Christ and Pamela Kurtis were honored at the Marshall County Good Scout Award Luncheon last week for more than thirty years of service, leadership, and unwavering support for Scouting's values.
The event, hosted at the Rees Theater in downtown Plymouth, drew many attendees who gathered to celebrate the Kurtis family's legacy. The recognition comes as part of the LaSalle Council’s Good Scout program, which annually honors individuals who live out the principles of the Scout Oath and Law in their personal and professional lives.
Christ and Pam are best known as the founders of Christos Family Dining, a community staple in Plymouth since 1988. With a commitment to quality food, family atmosphere, and warm hospitality, they expanded the Christos brand to LaPorte and Knox, building not just a business, but a place where relationships and memories were made.
Yet their impact extends far beyond their restaurants. For decades, the Kurtis family has invested deeply in the Marshall County community, supporting local initiatives, mentoring others, and actively volunteering in the Scouting community. Their two children, Eleni and Takis, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, reflecting the values that guided the Kurtis household.
“In order to have honor, you have to have respect,” said Christ Kurtis. “So we respected the community, taught our children to be respectful, and Scouting had a big part of that.”
That respect and commitment were evident throughout the luncheon, especially during heartfelt remarks from their son Takis, whose words reminded everyone of the impact one family can make.
“This was a truly special event,” said one attendee. “It was made overwhelmingly clear how deserving Christ and Pam are of this award. Their story reflects everything good about Scouting—and about Marshall County.”
Though the luncheon has passed, the work continues. Donations to support local Scouting in Marshall County are still being accepted at [https://www.lasallecouncilbsa.org/donate]. Every dollar stays in the community, helping young people grow into the next generation of trustworthy, helpful, and respectful leaders.
