Marshall County father arrested after 6-year-old tests positive for methamphetamine

A Marshall County man is facing serious felony charges after a 6-year-old child in his care tested positive for methamphetamine, prompting a joint investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana Department of Child Services.

On Wednesday, July 29th, at approximately 11:45 a.m., Marshall County law enforcement received a complaint from the Indiana Department of Child Services reporting that a young child had tested positive for methamphetamine. Officers immediately responded to the 16,000 block of 14th Road, where they made contact with the child's father, Steven D. Nissley, 50.

During the investigation, officers searched Nissley's living area and recovered suspected methamphetamine and marijuana. Nissley was arrested and transported to the Marshall County Jail.

The investigation was led by Detective Sergeant Jonathan Bryant and Deputy Robert Williams of the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, working in coordination with the Indiana Department of Child Services.

Nissley faces charges of neglect of a dependent as a level 5 felony, possession of methamphetamine as a level 6 felony, and possession of marijuana as a class B misdemeanor.  He is being held on a $10,000 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
