Marshall County Coroner Dean Byers has appointed John Lampkins as Chief Deputy Coroner, effective January 1, 2026.
Lampkins brings 11 years of experience serving Marshall County as a Deputy Coroner and is certified as a Medicolegal Death Investigator through the Indiana Coroner's Training Board.
"John has demonstrated exceptional dedication and professionalism during his 11 years of service to Marshall County," Coroner Byers said. "His extensive experience and certifications make him ideally suited for this leadership position."
In addition to his coroner's office duties, Lampkins serves as a full-time paramedic/firefighter with the City of Plymouth Fire Department and works as an EMT instructor with the North Central Career & Technical Education Cooperative.
His combination of emergency medical services experience, educational expertise, and medicolegal death investigation training provides comprehensive qualifications for the chief deputy position.
As Chief Deputy Coroner, Lampkins will assist in overseeing death investigations throughout Marshall County and help lead the coroner's office team. The chief deputy serves as second-in-command and assumes coroner duties when needed.
Lampkins will begin his new role on January 1, 2026.
The Marshall County Coroner's Office is responsible for investigating deaths that occur under certain circumstances, including sudden, unexpected, or suspicious deaths. The office works closely with law enforcement, medical professionals, and other agencies to determine cause and manner of death.
