A Leadership Shelby County project will add four concrete gaming tables to the downtown Public Square.
The LSC group presented the idea to the Board of Works and Public Safety Tuesday morning at City Hall. The project will install four gaming tables and benches in the southeast corner of the Public Square near Bishopp’s Appliances and Spegal’s Prime Cuts.
The checkers- and chess board-type tables are semi-permanent installations that weigh nearly 600 pounds. The accompanying benches are approximately 300 pounds. One table will be geared more toward youth and another will be ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant.
Maintenance is minimal. The project has the support of downtown businesses.
The board approved the request and asked that the LSC group coordinate installation with the Street Department.
In other board business Tuesday:
- Approved the closure of W. Broadway Street from West St. to Miller St. Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. to create a safe zone for Halloween Trick or Treat activities.
- Accepted the build-operate-transfer proposal from Runnebohm Construction for the amphitheater project at Blue River Memorial Park.
