Progress continues toward the creation of a Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) in Lawrence County to assist local and area veterans with their needs and benefit claims.
The Lawrence County Board heard from those involved in the effort, which would also include a full-time veteran's service officer in Lawrenceville. A potential office location at the Lawrence County Health Department has been agreed upon and a budget covering estimated costs is being formulated along with by-laws to govern the commission. Additional information will be provided to the board in the future. The board had indicated its support for the idea but did have some concerns over costs.
The board did approve a revised and updated animal control ordinance along with low bids for township and county Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) maintenance expenditures. An Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) joint funding agreement for the Christy Avenue resurfacing project and a supplemental resolution for a highway project east of Birds were also given the go-ahead.
