The Lawrence County Board met in regular monthly session Wednesday at the county courthouse. They moved to allocate over $266,000 in county American Relief Plan Act (ARPA) funding to finance the purchase and installation of new ballot tabulation equipment and software for future elections. County Clerk and Election Authority Will Gibson said the move was needed due to the antiquated and outdated system currently being used being discontinued. The new election system would not be in use until April of 2025. The board also approved over $2700 to repair a backup dispatch console at the EMA center for emergency use. VEI of Vincennes will do the work. The board did vote to give County Engineer Aaron Mefford authority to enter into contractual agreements regarding his department on the county's behalf. The board also approved a resolution declaring Lawrence County a non-sanctuary county with no tax dollars to be spent regarding illegal immigrants or asylum-seekers.
