Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a boating accident that occurred on Lake Shafer near Indiana Beach yesterday.
just before 3 p.m., White County Communications Center received a 911 call of a juvenile that was injured in an accident in that area. Initial investigation determined that a 12-year-old was tubing behind a boat with family members when the individual attempted to board the boat while the propeller was engaged. The propeller struck the juvenile in both legs, causing significant injury.
The juvenile was taken to shore then transported via helicopter to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.
An investigation is ongoing. The juvenile was wearing a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket at the time of the incident.
Other assisting agencies included White County Sheriff’s Department, Monticello Fire and Emergency Medical Services, and Parkview Samaritan Helicopter.
