The Indiana State Police will handle a death investigation involving a Putnam County Jail inmate.
Just after 10 p.m. Wednesday, an inmate was found unresponsive in the cell at the Putnam County Jail. According to a release from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, staff immediately began lifesaving measures and requested additional emergency medical services. Putnam County Paramedics arrived and continued lifesaving measures.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is following previously established procedures regarding death in custody investigations. In accordance with those procedures, the Indiana State Police were contacted to
conduct an independent investigation into the incident.
No foul play is suspected. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Putnam County Coroner’s Office following an autopsy.
No further details are being released as of this report, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
