As of May 18, Attorney General Todd Rokita’s Unclaimed Property Division has returned more than $56 million to rightful owners — raising the realistic possibility of setting a new winning pace in 2026.
The largest sum returned by the Unclaimed Property Division was $88 million in 2025.
“Hoosiers throw around a lot of racing metaphors during the month of May,” Attorney General Rokita said. “Well, this could be a new track record for our Unclaimed Property Division.”
Now is the time to take a pit stop at IndianaUnclaimed.gov and search your name — or loved ones’ names — to see whether anyone’s wallet gets a quick splash of fuel. Nearly $1 billion remains unclaimed statewide.
Unclaimed property includes:
- Unclaimed wages or commissions
- Money orders
- Safe deposit box contents
- Savings and checking accounts
- Refunds
- Overpayments such as: credit card balances, cell phone bills
Once property is in its custody, the Unclaimed Property Division conducts an aggressive outreach effort to locate rightful owners or heirs. Individuals and/or businesses have 25 years to claim money once it’s reported to the Unclaimed Property Division.
Visit IndianaUnclaimed.gov or text CLAIM to 46220 to search your name, family or business. You can also contact the Unclaimed Property Division at 1-866-462-5246 or updmail@atg.in.gov.
