Indiana ranks among nation's lowest for veteran unemployment

Indiana recorded one of the lowest veteran unemployment rates in the country in 2025, with just 1.7% of the state's veterans out of work — less than half the national average of 3.5%, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

State Representative Jack Jordan (R-Bremen) credited Indiana's strong numbers to ongoing support from state agencies, including the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs, both of which provide career and training resources to veterans entering or transitioning within the workforce.

"Indiana is making it easier for veterans to succeed after military service, not only by connecting them with jobs, but ensuring they have access to resources when they need them most," Jordan said. "The Military Family Relief Fund, for example, helps remove financial barriers that can make finding and keeping employment more difficult."

Through those agencies, employers across the state can also connect with qualified military talent — veterans who bring leadership experience, technical training, and discipline to the workforce.
