Indiana June 2025 Employment Report

The unemployment rate in Indiana for June was 3.6%, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. In comparison, the national unemployment rate for June was 4.1%.

The Marshall County unemployment rate for June was 3.5%, ranking the county 48th out of 92 counties in the state. In May, the county’s unemployment rate was 3.2% ranking us 50th in the state, and in April, we had a rate of 2.8%.

Looking at the counties surrounding Marshall, you will find Starke County ranked 5th with a rate of 4.5%. In May, they were #3 with a rate of 4.2%, and in April, it was 4.0%. St. Joseph County jumped from 16th in May with a rate of 3.7% to 13th in June with an unemployment rate of 4.1%. In April, they were 21st with a rate of 3.2%.

Elkhart County remained at 17th on the list of counties with a rate of 3.6%. In May, their rate was 3.7%. Fulton County is right behind at 18th with an unemployment rate of 3.9%, and LaPorte County is 19th with the same 3.9% rate. In May, LaPorte County was 14th on the list with a rate of 3.7%.  

Looking at the rest of the counties surrounding Marshall, Kosciusko County is at 43^rd with a rate of 3.6%.  In May, they were 42^nd on the list with a rate of 3.3%.  In June, Pulaski County dropped to 91st on the list of counties with a rate of 2.9%.  Last month they were 90^th with a rate of 2.7%. 

Additionally, Indiana’s labor force participation rate is 63.7%, surpassing the national rate of 62.3%. This percentage represents Hoosiers aged 16 and older who are either employed or actively seeking work. People not in the labor force mainly include students, retirees, and other non-working groups, such as individuals unable to work due to disability or illness, or adults caring for their family's children. Indiana’s total labor force amounts to 3,489,938.

June 2025 total private employment is 2,844,300 an decrease of 3,900 from the previous month.

• Trade, Transportation & Utilities (+400)

As of June 30, 2025, there were 86,381 open job postings throughout the state. As of the week ending on July 5, 2025, Indiana had 20,694 continued unemployment insurance claims filed.
