
According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the state's unemployment rate in April was 3.9%. By comparison, the national unemployment rate reported for April was 4.2%.
In April, Marshall County's unemployment rate was 2.8%, ranking it 50th among the 92 counties in the state. In March, the county’s rate was 3.3%, and in February, it was 4.3%.
Looking at the counties surrounding Marshall, we find Starke County at number 3 on the list with an unemployment rate of 4.0%. Last month their rate was 4.7%, and in February it was 6.60%. LaPorte County is 9th on the list with a rate of 4.5%, an improvement from the 4.1% in March. Fulton County dropped to 18th with a rate of 3.2%. In March, they were 14th with an unemployment rate of 3.9%. St. Joseph County is ranked 21st with a rate of 3.20%.
Looking at the rest of the counties surrounding Marshall, Elkhart County comes in 25th with a rate of 3.1%, a half a percent improvement from March. Kosciusko County is 46th on the list with an unemployment rate of 2.9%. Last month, they were at 3.3%. Pulaski County has the lowest unemployment rate of the counties surrounding Marshall, with a rate of 2.4%. In March, they had a rate of 3.1%; in February, it was 4.3%.
In addition, Indiana’s labor force participation rate is 63.7% compared to the national rate of 62.6%. This rate is the percentage of Hoosiers 16 and older that are either working or actively looking for work. Those not in the labor force include, primarily, students, retirees and other non-working populations, such as individuals unable to work due to a disability or illness, or adults responsible for their family's childcare needs. Indiana’s total labor force stands at 3,483,930.
April 2025 total private employment is 2,840,200 an increase of 4,800 from the previous month.

- Financial Activities (+400)
As of May 1, 2025, there were 88,613 open job postings throughout the state. As of the week ending on April 26, 2025, Indiana had 21,736 continued unemployment insurance claims filed.
