Indiana high school seniors and college students planning to pursue teaching careers can now apply for the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, which provides up to $10,000 per year for four academic years.

State Representative Jack Jordan (R-Bremen) is encouraging eligible students to apply for the scholarship program, which was established by the General Assembly in 2016 to address Indiana's teacher shortage.

"I encourage those eligible to apply," Jordan said. "Indiana needs great teachers to continue investing in Hoosier students for generations to come."

Scholarship Details

Recipients receive $10,000 annually for up to four academic years in exchange for committing to teach in Indiana for at least five years after graduation.

In 2023, the legislature increased the scholarship award from $7,500 to $10,000 and removed the annual 200-recipient limit. The changes have significantly expanded the program's reach—last year, more than 1,000 students applied for the scholarship, a new record, with nearly 300 scholarships awarded.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, students must:

  • Graduate from an Indiana accredited high school or non-accredited nonpublic high school

    • Have a top 20% ACT or SAT score
    • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
